Big Lake Youth Camp’s 2014 Summer Season has begun and we could not be more excited to have our first camp of the season, the adorable and energetic Junior I, already here.
Staff Training last week was quite rainy but the campers brought sunshine to us on arrival both literally and figuratively this Sunday.
Our theme this summer is “Loved.”
“And may you have the power to understand… how wide, how long, how high and how deep His love is. May you experience the love of Christ.”
That is what we are about here at Big Lake. Not just this summer, but that has been our legacy for fifty-two years as camp, as well as our aim for fifty-two more years to come.
That they, our campers and all that we come into contact with, may know the extraordinary love of God through Jesus Christ.
I, as a former camper and new staff member this year can attest to that. I remember my first night as an Adventure camper, I was a little scared and unsure about all the enthusiasm, goofy plays with moral values, and staff hug lines before bed every night.
But by the end of the week I was so in love. In love with the lake, in love with the staff, in love with the forest, in love with the songs, and especially in love with the epic water activities (blobbing, rocketing, swimming).
And in all these awesome things, I saw an awesome God. A God who was less concerned about how many sins you had committed or whether you were at church last week, and more concerned about joy. More concerned about love.
The God that IS love.
That is the God we are showing to our campers this summer.
And we have no doubt in our minds that He will show up.
Every. Single. Week.
Today the sky is as blue as the lake! It’s currently 70 degrees and it’s looking to warm up even more later this afternoon to the low 80’s.
Yesterday morning’s thunderstorm led to some awesome indoor activities for our waterfront campers due to safety, but they are out today tearing up the water with BLYC’s three beautiful Air Nautiques.
By next week, it is forecasted to get into the nineties, so we will definitely be loading on the sun screen!
Hope you all have an exciting week and rest of the summer.
We certainty will, and are so blessed to spend it with your kids.
