Scholarships

The Big Lake Youth Camp “Campership Scholarship” fund has been established by donations from campers, parents, former staff and other interested persons who want to see every child have an opportunity to attend Big Lake. The funds are distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis to those who financially qualify, until funds allotted for the summer are used up. Parents can apply for these funds for up to two (2) years per camper.

The way to apply for our Campership Scholarship is to start registering your camper for camp (REG or Expeditions camps are eligible). During the registration process, there is a question asking if you need Campership Scholarship assistance for your camper to attend camp. When you click “Yes”, you will be taken to a quick application which asks simple financial questions about your family. Once you click “next”, you will email out a recommendation form to someone who is not a relative, but is aware of your financial situation (pastor, teacher, close family friend). You will then complete the registration process and pay your $75 to hold the camper’s reservation (we cannot add Campership funds unless there is a reservation on your account).

Once you have completed your camper’s reservation, it would be a good idea to reach out to the person you emailed the recommendation form to, letting them know to be on the look out for it. After that person has submitted the recommendation, we will take a look at your application to see if you qualify to receive Campership funds, and if there are funds left for the summer. If you do qualify and there are funds left, we will add them to your reservation and email you that the funds have been added. The typical amount of Campership funds that are added is around $245.

Other sources of possible financial support for campers are: your local church,
grandparents/relatives, caring friends, camper’s own initiative, etc. Sometimes state money is available for families with foster children – check with your caseworker to see if this is a possibility.

Someday, when your circumstances are reversed, you will have an opportunity to donate to this fund and make a difference in a child’s life so that they will find a love so compelling that they will spend the rest of their lives pursuing its source!
