We are so appreciative of the support we have received from campers, former staff, families, and groups such as Maranatha over the years. Thank you for caring about Big Lake. Your giving spirit has allowed us to continue to make a positive impact in this world by expressing the love of Jesus to all those who visit our campus.
Maranatha at Big Lake Youth Camp
Big Lake Youth Camp has served as an outdoor sanctuary for summer campers and retreat attendees for the last 54 years. However, our location near Sisters, Oregon means harsh winters. The large amount of snow and rain we get each winter takes a severe toll on our buildings which left a number of them in need of repairs and updates this year. We were so excited and appreciative of Maranatha International and their volunteers who helped us make improvements during spring and summer.
The group rebuilt two 15-bed cabins in the girls village in the spring before camp began and then came back the end of the summer to build one additional girls village cabin. They also widened the hallway/dish return area in the lodge to allow for better flow into the cafeteria.
The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) passes right by our property and volunteers have been renovating a cabin that is serving as a welcome center and resting point for PCT hikers. The volunteer group started the process of installing walls, bathroom partitions, and cabinetry.
The group also renovated the horse barn by raising the roof and providing more support to prevent snow damage.
There was a lot to be accomplished in 2016 and Maranatha volunteers were a huge blessing to Big Lake Youth Camp. They will be coming back in 2017 to continue making improvements at Big Lake including rebuilding another two cabins.
